STAYING PUT

Posted by [email protected] on May 10, 2019 at 5:45 AM Comments comments (0)
Sorry for the lack of posts, we have had an eventful couple of weeks just recently. We were told by the Major of the local Salvation Army, that they were not renewing the lease in Sept, & they were giving us notice to quit in the 2nd week of June 2019. We started looking around & contacted St Pauls Church, which is only a stones throw away, to see if they could help us, as they along with the local YMCA had provided a Night Shelter over the winter months. They quickly came back with a positive response. At the same time ESBC, who own the building, came to us with a lifeline, which we are in the process of accepting, so hopefully we are staying put. We have been once again very lucky with our donors. We thankyou for your continued support. Mick

I know its been a while since I have posted anything, but if you follow us on face book, I usually add something on a weekly basis.

Now is the time for Harvest Festival, & the number of schools who have been in touch & donated is very heart warming to know that so many youngster are thinking of people in need. We have also had donations coming for youngster doing sponsered things. Its really pleasing to think that in this day & age the next generation are aware of the problems of homeless & poverty, modern ways of communacation have a lot to play in this.

Thats all for now.

Since the last entry we have had loads of donations of all sorts of items ranging from money to clothing to food. We are currently getting ready for Christmas & the offers coming in is unreal, many local (& not so local) company's & indivuals are coming forward. Our donation area is now pretty widespread, from the Derbyshire Dales to the West Midlands & even some from over the pond. We are very lucky to have such generous folk who are willing to think of others.

Been bHadusy with requests this month, so here is a short summary.  Had a couple of phone calls offering us fresh produce, this is something that we cannot handle on a regular or large scale, to this end I contacted a local hospice to see if they could help, they came back with a positive response. So now any offers of fresh produce i direct them to the hospice. Had a request from a local organisation to do an interview, on video, which will be screened on face book, (if its any good), also had an invite from a local Parish Councillor to do a presentation at one of their meetings, spreading the word. A local branch of a well known supermarket has been in touch to see if we would like to receive their slightly damaged, but still in date tinned & dry goods, albeing well this will start w/e 21st Feb. Will have to wait & see.

This week saw us come to an agreement with our local NISA store (Hatton) to receive their end of day food stuffs. Could be anything or could be nothing, no 2 days the same. Anything is better that it going to either landfill or incinerate. Also had enquiry from a global company who may be putting our name forward to their fundraising team, fingers crossed. The local ASDA (Burton) store is also helping us. Together with 2 other local good cause's our name is in their store, customers use green tokens to vote for the cause to win a cash donation.

Just recently I have given talks on Homelessness & Soup Kitchens in the local area to, 4th Burton Brownies & Yr 7 students at de Ferrers Academy ( Dove Campus), Burton upon Trent. Although the ages were slightly different, the response was the same. They asked some very good questions & were committed to support the S.A food bank & the Soup Kitchen. Many thanks to both group for the invites. Mick
